An exceptionally versatile spice, turmeric is the ground roots of a tall plant that grows plentiful in Central America and Asia. Originating 4000 years ago from Indian spice suppliers, today the whole of Europe including the United Kingdom marvels at its ability to exhibit properties similar to saffron. Travelling through China (700 AD),East Africa (800 AD), West Africa (1200 AD) it took Europe by storm. The famous Venetian merchant Marco Polo was completely taken in 1280 by the wonderful edible properties of turmeric. The use of turmeric has since then pervaded into the modern cuisine cultures of middle and west Europe and large parts of America.
